Description
Overview: Accurate measurement of soil biological properties may require that soils not be over-handled by grinding and sieving. Woods End Labs manufactures 2.5 kg hardwood soil rollers for ease of crushing soil with minimal damaging effects. Hand-rolling of soil dates to the 1960’s and has largely been replaced by rapid hammer-mill technology to increase soil-throughput in commercial laboratories. In many cases, however, the resulting destruction of micro-aggregates will compromise samples for C-min and N-min tests as well as spoil measurement of water stable aggregates. A variety of options exist for labs to consider changes in soil preparation supporting more realistic measurement of soil biological properties that are indicative of soil health. The soil roller is one important option.
Application: Use with 2mm or coarser sieve as shown in this short video to prep soil samples for soil health testing.
